The Company recognises its duties under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and all associated legislation and is committed to establishing, implementing and maintaining an Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) aligned with the principles of ISO 45001:2018.
The Company shall:
Prevent work-related injury and ill health,
Eliminate hazards and reduce occupational health and safety risks,
Comply with applicable legal and other requirements,
Continually improve its health and safety performance.
This policy provides the framework for setting health and safety objectives and shall be communicated to all persons working for or on behalf of the Company.
This policy applies to:
All employees,
All subcontractors and agency workers,
All Company premises and client sites,
All activities undertaken by OMS Group.
Overall responsibility for health and safety rests with the Managing Director, Luke Glenet.
Senior Management shall demonstrate leadership and commitment by:
Ensuring health and safety is integrated into business planning and decision-making,
Providing adequate resources to implement this policy,
Promoting a positive health and safety culture,
Ensuring consultation and participation of workers on health and safety matters,
Ensuring responsibilities and authorities are defined and communicated.
The Company shall:
Identify and maintain access to all applicable health and safety legislation and guidance,
Ensure compliance with statutory requirements including but not limited to:
Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974
Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999
RIDDOR
COSHH
PUWER
Manual Handling Operations Regulations
PPE Regulations
Fire Safety Order 2005
Review legal compliance as part of audit and management review processes.
The Managing Director shall:
Have overall accountability for the effectiveness of the OHSMS,
Ensure suitable policies, procedures and resources are in place,
Appoint competent persons to assist in health and safety management,
Ensure arrangements exist for emergencies, accident reporting and investigation,
Approve and review this policy annually.
Directors and Managers shall:
Implement this policy within their areas of responsibility,
Ensure suitable and sufficient risk assessments are completed and reviewed,
Ensure staff are trained and competent, including refresher training,
Ensure work equipment is suitable, inspected and maintained,
Ensure PPE and welfare facilities are provided,
Monitor performance and address non-conformances,
Ensure effective communication and consultation with workers.
The designated competent person shall:
Advise management on legal compliance,
Maintain risk assessment systems (including COSHH, manual handling and equipment),
Coordinate accident reporting and RIDDOR notifications,
Investigate incidents and recommend corrective actions,
Maintain training records and a training matrix,
Support audits and management reviews,
Promote continual improvement.
All persons working for or on behalf of OMS Group shall:
Take reasonable care for their own health and safety and that of others,
Cooperate with Company procedures and control measures,
Use PPE and equipment as instructed,
Report hazards, accidents, near misses and unsafe conditions,
Participate in training and consultation activities,
Comply with lone working and check call requirements.
The Company shall:
Identify hazards and assess risks for all activities,
Implement controls using the hierarchy of control,
Review assessments when circumstances change,
Maintain documented evidence of control measures.
Specific assessments shall include:
COSHH
Manual handling
Lone working
Work equipment
Fire and emergency risks
Site-specific client risks
OMS Group shall:
Provide induction, task-specific and refresher training,
Ensure only competent persons undertake work,
Maintain a training matrix and training records,
Review training needs following incidents or changes in activity.
The Company shall:
Consult employees on health and safety matters,
Encourage reporting of hazards and improvement suggestions,
Communicate policy and procedural changes promptly,
Ensure subcontractors receive relevant safety information.
Adequate welfare facilities shall be provided in accordance with statutory requirements, including:
Toilets and washing facilities,
Drinking water,
Rest areas,
Suitable changing facilities where required.
The Company shall:
Provide suitable PPE where risks cannot be otherwise controlled,
Ensure PPE is maintained and replaced as necessary,
Provide training and instruction on PPE use,
Monitor compliance with PPE requirements.
OMS Group shall:
Ensure all equipment is suitable for purpose and compliant with PUWER,
Carry out inspections and maintenance,
Withdraw defective equipment from service,
Provide training for equipment use.
The Company shall:
Avoid manual handling where reasonably practicable,
Assess unavoidable manual handling tasks,
Implement control measures,
Provide training in safe lifting techniques.
The Company shall:
Identify hazardous substances,
Carry out COSHH assessments,
Implement exposure controls,
Provide safety data and training,
Monitor compliance.
14.1 The Company shall implement and maintain a formal lone working and welfare monitoring system as an operational control measure.
14.2 All employees and subcontractors are required to book on and book off each shift using the Company’s designated Check Call system.
14.3 Where lone working is identified through risk assessment, standard welfare check call intervals shall be set at 60 minutes.
14.4 For high-risk sites or activities, welfare check call intervals shall be increased to 30 minutes or less, based on site-specific risk assessment outcomes.
14.5 Failure to book on, book off or respond to scheduled check calls shall trigger escalation under emergency response procedures.
14.6 Records of welfare monitoring shall be retained as evidence of operational control.
15.1 All accidents, incidents and near misses must be reported without delay.
15.2 The Company shall:
Investigate incidents to identify root causes,
Implement corrective and preventive actions,
Maintain incident records.
15.3 Reportable incidents shall be notified to the HSE in accordance with RIDDOR.
The Company shall:
Establish emergency procedures for foreseeable events,
Provide fire safety arrangements and evacuation procedures,
Ensure first aid provision is adequate and maintained,
Test arrangements periodically.
Appropriate first aid facilities, equipment and trained personnel shall be provided in line with risk assessment and operational needs.
The Company shall:
Monitor health and safety performance,
Conduct internal audits,
Review findings at management level,
Use results to drive continual improvement.
This policy shall be:
Reviewed annually,
Reviewed following significant change or incident,
Communicated to all employees and relevant interested parties.
